ASLA-NCC Merit Award 2017
Design: Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Spaces

An elevated terrace frames arrival to the historic IERBYS (Interurban Electric Railway Bridge Yard Shop) and provides landscape views to the water, the port, the marsh, the hills, and the Self-Anchored Suspension Span Tower of the new San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. Used for the bridge opening celebrations, the project now serves as a rest area for bicyclists en route to the new Bridge Trail. The transformation celebrates the transportation history as well as the future potential of the site as a regional park. Re-purposing Bay Bridge construction by-products for site furniture strengthens the projects authenticity.
