Coastal Gardens

This unique property perches on the cliffsides of the California coastline and is dominated by patches of near-endemic Monterey cypress forest and the vibrant green of invasive kikuyu grass. Implementing the vision for a family retreat site involved situating a new home into the hillside and carefully applying refined yet rustic lounge and/or play spaces into the sometimes rugged terrain. Planting strategies balance the needs for bluff restoration and family recreational space, showcasing both native and garden species amongst the rock outcrops and a crafted timber architectural vernacular.
